Week 2! Part 1...

welcome back, peeps! We had finished the first class for this week! We had a new chapter for the class which it is Introduction of CALL!

First thing first, how are you? I hope you had a fine day today.

Today, I learnt about CALL. Technically, not only me but since this is MY blog, so i will just write about my point of view. Haha! =D I hope that is allowed.

Back to the main topic, please! Alright! What is CALL? Is it when you 'call' people by saying their name? Or through mobile phone with someone in other places?

CALL is Computer-Assisted Language Learning which it is a side of e-learning for Second Language learning.

There are 4 types of CALL:
  1. CALL-specific software
  2. Web-based learning
  3. Generic software
  4. Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC)

In CALL, there are Software Design and Pedagogy that managed by
team of people
such as:
  • Subject specialist
  • Programmer
  • Graphic designer
  • Professional photographer (according to ones necessity)
  • Sound engineer and video technician
  • Instructional designer

  The Progression of CALL:

  • Behaviouristic CALL used around 1960s. The primary method is Audio-Lingual Method. It is a programmed instruction. theare are pros and cons of Behaviouristic CALL which they are beneficial for learning but students are passive, immediate feedback but no interactions, and students able to work according to their level but the application of animal training based is doubtful.
  • Communicative CALL was used around 1970s - 1980s. Focused on language than grammatical rules. The role of computer is as tutor, stimulus, and tool itself. The advantage of using Communicative CALL is cheap and widely available.
  • Integrated CALL used hypermedia and real world materials such as videos. Integrated CALL involving Internet and CALL.
